This tiny, silent, mysterious and blind amphibian adjusted to underground darkness that breathes with external gills, although it also has fully developed lungs, is covered with human-like pink skin, her Slovene name deriving from this characteristic, literary it stands for “human fish”. Its life expectancy is similar to human's. It only inhabits Dinaric carst caves and is listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species since 1982.
